This is very relatable, the two sides of the brain, with the part that is looking at the text from the outside and then being inside the draft. I really love writing first drafts--maybe a little much because I draft so many stories and essays and then never want to take the time to revise them for publication, I just want to start something new and be in that bubble where I don't have to think about the audience.
Thank you for sharing Albert's story. I love that you are incorporating knowledge he passed on to you in your new book.
It’s nearly impossible to eradicate once established. It’s taken over entire neighborhoods in Denver, where I live. I’ve been known to pull seedlings from public spaces, strangers’ yards, wherever.
That was really beautiful, thank you for sharing. You vividly articulate the internal hurdles we need to get over to inhabit the worlds we write. Always a battle.
Peace be with Albert and his loved ones. We’ll keep writing to celebrate we are alive.
I loved everything about this piece, you touched on so many struggles writers go through that freezes their progress. I know, I stopped for 10 years and am CREEPING back into it. The harrowing news of your friend puts it all in perspective - just do what you love. Thank you for sharing!
loved this on all levels
Sorry about Albert. May his memory forever be a blessing.
More of this, please. So good. I'm so sorry about Albert.

Love love love.
What a beautiful, motivating piece...but also that plant you linked to is the bane of my existence.
It's in the wild canyon behind my house...and it is out of control!
